Welcome to the City Of Canton Purchasing Department
The goal of the City of Canton Purchasing Department is to obtain needed goods and services by the most efficient and effective methods while providing the highest level of service and courtesy to our customers. The City of Canton recognizes the important services provided by our vendors in achieving our goal. To assist vendors in that process, this page has been developed to provide all potential vendors with information regarding the City of Canton's procurement policy.
A reputable vendor is one who can confirm and provide:
- At least three positive references from previous business transactions.
- A positive Dun & Bradstreet recommendation. (where applicable)
- A submitted and valid W-9. Click Here
- No ties direct or indirect to any City elected official, department head, purchasing agent or clerk, personnel officer, chief financial officer, budget officer, or any employee with immediate family ties.

If the purchase of a single good or service is expected to exceed $5,000 competition is required to the extent it exists. The purchasing department must attempt to obtain a minimum of three bids from different sources. All bidding documentation shall be kept in writing and filed in sequential order by the purchasing department.
How to Submit a Bid:
All bids must have a Vendor Application pre-submitted along with the W9 form. All bids must be submitted in writing to the Purchasing Department located at 151 Elizabeth Street, Canton, GA 30114. How Long Does A Bid Have to Be Advertised:
A minimum of three weeks if over $25,000. If it is a grant-funded project over $100,000, then it must be advertised for four weeks.
Award of Bids:
Bids are awarded to the lowest responsive and responsible bidder, with the exception for local bidder preference. A responsive bid is one that conforms to all material respects to the needs of the City of Canton. Responsible means a bidder who has the capability to perform the requirements of the bid. All awarded bids will be posted on this page within 24 hours of bid closure.

Local Bidder Preference:
If all other relevant factors have been satisfied; the purchasing department, with approval of the City department requesting the product or service, may select a local vendor if the local vendor is within 5% of the lowest offer. Local bidder preference may only be given when the total amount of the lowest bid does not exceed $20,000. A local vendor is one whose base of business operations is located within the City limits.
