The Canton Police Department is a full service law enforcement agency divided into four divisions. The Administrative Service Division (ASD),Public Information/Community Relations,Uniform Patrol Division (UPD), and Criminal Investigations Division (CID). The ADS maintains all records for the police department as well as handles all requests for records. The UPD performs all traditional law enforcement functions such as respond to calls for service, performs preventive patrol, and does traffic enforcement. The CID handles all investigations, both felony and misdemeanor within the City of Canton. The Public Information/Community Relations Division serves as a vital link between the community and Canton Police Department in educating our citizens as well as building police-community relationships. Each division is commanded by a Lieutenant.

The primary mission of the Canton Police Department is to maintain social order within prescribed ethical and constitutional limits, while providing professional law enforcement services. To attain this, the Agency enforces the law in a fair and impartial manner, recognizing both the statutory and judicial limitations of police authority and the constitutional rights of all persons. The Agency recognizes that no law enforcement agency can operate at its maximum potential without supportive input from the citizens it serves. The Agency actively solicits and encourages the cooperation of all citizens to reduce and limit the opportunities for crime and to facilitate the maximum use of resources.
