The City of Canton Street Division is responsible for the maintenance and repair of streets, sidewalks, storm drainage, street sign installation and replacement, and right-of-way maintenance within the city. This division strives to maintain and improve the City of Canton’s infrastructure at the highest possible level and to enhance and promote the quality of life. Our office is located at 2525 Ridge Road. Hours of operation are Monday – Friday from 7 am till 4 pm.
Functions and Duties:
- Road Repairs: Patch Pot Holes; Minor Asphalt Zipping; Small Paving Jobs that include Water and Sewer Repairs; Crack Seal; Etc…
- Pour and Repair Sidewalks
- Dig Ditches; Put in Drain Lines; Build Concrete Catch Basin Caps and Rings
- Right-of-Way Maintenance: Cut Grass; Weed Eat; Spray Weed Control; Pick up Trash and Debris; Trim Trees; Install and Repair Signs located within the Right-of-Way; Run Bush Hog Route; Carcass Removal from Road or Right-of-Way
- Run Waste Route in Downtown Area (Mad-Vac)
- Pick up Leaves in the Fall with Leaf Truck and Run a Bag Route
- Keep Storm Drains Clean by Clearing Debris and Providing a Sweeper Truck Route that runs Year Round
- Run a Brush Route Year Round that Chips Limbs and Tree Debris in areas that Waste Management does not Pick up
- Re-stripe Parking Spaces and Stop Bars within Streets; Put down Heat Tape when and where Needed
- Make and Install Signs within New Subdivisions and Maintain and Repair Signs within the City Limits and within Subdivisions that have been accepted for Maintenance by the City.
- Provide Animal Cage to City Citizens that are in need of Removing Small Animals.
- Respond to Emergency 911 calls due to Inclement Weather which includes Cutting Trees and Removing them from the Right-of-Way; Salt Roads during Snow and Ice; Respond to calls about Flooding due to Drains Clogging Up, Spills in Roadway, etc…
- Dispatch Traffic Signal Repairs to the Electrician
- Route Street Light Repairs within Subdivisions to Georgia Power or appropriate Power Company for Repairs
- Provide Traffic Control, when needed, with Flagger Certified Personnel
- Haul Asphalt, GBA, Crusher Run, Gravel, Dirt, Topsoil, Cold Patch, etc…
- Install Banners along Bridges; Install Christmas Lights, Christmas Trees, and Christmas Decorations
- Assist with Bring One for the Chipper by chipping up Christmas Trees and providing the Mulch to the Citizens and for use on City Projects
- Complete Infrastructure Repairs at Parks or other City Facilities (i.e. Water Repairs, Plumbing, etc…)
- Make Miscellaneous Repairs to City Facilities
- Assist the Parks & Recreation Division when Needed
