The Canton Council is responsible for formulating all policies governing the city, covering fiscal and administrative matters. Councilmembers are elected to four-year terms, with elections taking place biennially, resulting in staggered terms. Currently, James serves as the Mayor Pro Tem, stepping into the mayor’s role during Mayor Hobgood’s absence. All council positions represent citywide wards with specific geographic residency requirements.
Regular meetings of the City Council are scheduled to convene in the Council Chamber, situated on the main floor of Canton City. These meetings are held at 6 p.m. on the first and third Thursday of each month. Please note that the City Council reserves the right to postpone or cancel any meeting when necessary. You can access both upcoming and past meeting agendas at the following location.”
